The City of Sheridan Public Arts Committee invites you to participate in our 2010 on-loan, outdoor sculpture exhibit.
Since 2002, the City has acquired 32 sculptures for our parks and downtown area, attracting tourist and local interest. Most were purchased from the on-loan exhibits. In 2006 and 2007, we had 50% sales. The economy of 2008 was rough for all art programs but we still had sculptures worth over $100,000 purchased.
Entries are due April 15, 2010. Sculptures will be on exhibit June 2010 to May 2011. While on loan to us we will market your work. If sold by us, we will take only a 25% commission.
The exhibit begins Thursday, June 10, 2010 during the opening reception of the Celebrate the Arts Festival. The festival weekend activities include in-store and sidewalk artists, permanent sculpture recognition, a quick draw and auction, and a community picnic and reception for visiting artists.
You are invited to attend the opening. You may bring any small sculptures to display and sell. (We take no commission from any sales you may have, but you are responsible for any transactions.) We will pay for one night’s motel room.
Because this is a public, outdoor exhibit, all submitted works will be screened to insure durability and artistic merit prior to acceptance. The size needs to be appropriate for street display, the larger the better, with a minimum height of 16-18 inches. Fragile, dangerous, or inappropriate works will not be accepted. You may submit more than one. If your work is selected, we pay a $500 honorarium.
Please use the enclosed entry form and contract to apply. Sculptures can be delivered to Sheridan anytime after May 15, 2010 and before 9 AM June 10, so we may have them on display for the Festival. More information will be sent upon your acceptance. Visit our web site. Join Us!
